Work RANT:

Let’s start off here: I am sick, I have been for the past three weeks with two different colds and now an ear infection on top of everything. I came into work today at the writing center and wanted some water so I went over to my other job at the coffee cart to get it. I greet the two girls working and instead of a reply of “hey” or “how’s it going” or just ignoring me like often happens my hello consist of: “You’ve been lazy at closing.” I closed last night, I clo1se two nights a week. Mind you I have been very sick the last few weeks but as I need the money and one of the girls broke their back I’ve been coming it every day without complaint or attempting to get someone to cover for me, though I know they wouldn’t think of coving for me if my life depended on it, I’ve learnt that already.
I try to be polite I mean I am a bit older of them and do not enjoy sinking to their level. So of course I as How so, because if there is something I am forgetting to do often then there is something that I need to change. But all she could give me was I didn’t sweep (yes I did, and I mopped – I had to, I spilled a iced mocha on the floor with a flavor which means the whole place would have been a sticky mess had I not), she then claimed all of the napkins were empty, (were they? They were not when I life but that doesn’t mean they weren’t when she opened. The coffee stand closes at eight but the school doesn’t close until around 10:30pm) her next lame claim was that there were pennies on the floor… There are always pennies on the floor.

Okay, so we are very short handed right now at work, one girl broke her back when riding her horse last week so everyone is stretched to their limits. I understand that, that is why I never called in sick while I’ve been sick, which is most likely why I am still sick.

But really I am the only one who closes at 8:15 the time the coffee stand closes. The other girl who I greeted this morning also closes at the stand and when it is her turn the stand is always closed by 7:50. That is shit. But you see they are friends so I get bitched and they giggle together.

Whatever, I am quitting there at the end of summer. I love my boss and there are a few good co workers but I do not need to deal with bitches that are on the rag.

UWB lit Journal

I am fed up with over half of the people I am working with on the UWB's literary journal.
I just send out an email to all of them about how they are treating each other and the work that we have reviewed.

Basically this is what I said:

This is just a reminder to all.

We should be handling all work with respect regardless of how many submissions one person has submitted. Not only that, but each of these people have take time and thought about what they would give us and it would behoove us all to remember that without their submissions there would be no UWB literary journal.

We have had major ups and downs on how we have behaved while picking what work that we said we would allow into the journal. In our first selection meeting it was ridiculous how some people acted, most of the air was cleared by the second week of selections, however the last of respect and outright brutality in the cases of some people was completely out of line.

I truly hope that our last selection process is nothing like the previous meetings. I ask that people to not try to toss their weight around. This happen too much last time and made me sick to see how large some egos were growing during the meeting.

If you are leading the discussion it does not mean you are the ruler of the land no matter how much you wish you were. Your option is only as valid as anyone else’s no more and no less. If your augment is just as weak as some else it does not mean you are right because you are sitting in front of everyone. Why are we not in a circle anyway? Wasn’t that how we were meant to do this process so as to eliminate any hierarchy and to create a feeling on inclusion for all not exclusion to some?

One related thing,
If you ask for material to be posted early and you yourself do not take the time to look at, read, and think about the submissions do not ask me to push up packets. I was not able to turn in work for other classes because of the push up and then to find out that you did not take the time to look at some of the submissions I worked hard to get to you early is a slap in the face.

I have said my peace,
-Mika
----------------------------------------------------
Maybe I shouldn't have said what I said but by the end of the last meeting I wanted to punch the lights out on one of the people on the journal board.

Man, I didn't realize how much things have changed or how much I have changed since last I went and Sakura Con seemed to be integral to who I was five years ago.

I do enjoy going to Renaissance faires and Norwescon is pretty fun too but the crows of people that are drawn to Sakura Con really are not my type of folks anymore. They are like the people from “the room of stupid people” or “the sofa of stupid” by my work. I really do enjoy the people I have met through Alec's music and the renaissance crowd there is just a completely different feeling about them. Either way, it was good to see some of the old faces again (and not so good to see others).

I think what I am trying to get at is the feeling of truth.
People at sakura con feel fake to me.

            Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought—

So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through

The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

O frabjous day! Callooh!
